Will fizzy drinks erode enamel and effect the Whitening process?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009
Q.
I have been given a kit called ‘day white excel 3’ from my dentist in Australia. I used the kit last week for 9 days straight and was meant to leave it on for half an hour, but sometimes left it for over an hour. I had very sensitive teeth afterwards and felt that diet coke or anything acidic afterwards was attacking my teeth. It looks like some enamel may have been eroded the root s of some of my teeth, is this possible or could the whitening highlight a problem that may already be there? In addition do fizzy drinks and sparkling water erode the enamel on teeth over time? Thanks in advance.

Can u please suggest a mode to remove the stains for free?

Q.
Hello! So here’s the deal: I am getting my braces off in about 2years,and I already have stains. I need to get them off like pronto before my mom notices. And I don’t have time to go see a specialist without her knowing. And I only have like $30. What should I use to get rid of them?

Bleaching over longtime periods

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q.
Dr. Caplan, I am 57 years old and have had yellow teeth for most of my adult life. I have always had too much acid in my blood and have had to change my diet to eating almost exclusively alkaline foods to counteract this. But now I have the yellow teeth to contend with. I am a redhead and my teeth are extemely sensitive. I do not want to whiten my teeth by any of the methods offered, either at home or at my dentist, as I am concerned about zingers. I have heard some very disturbing stories of pain and discomfort from teeth whitening. So here’s my question – Can the discomfort of zingers be lessened and maybe even non-existent if I bleach them over weeks instead of days – maybe say just 5 minutes a day instead of 30? I have a low pain tolerance and would not mind bleaching over weeks or months (if it took that long) if I knew I would get the desired results. Do you know of anyone or have you heard of folks bleaching over long periods of time and getting results? Thanks for taking the time to read and answer my question.

i just got a filling in my front tooth and now is extemely sensitive can it be fix in nhs?

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
Hi i have recently missed an appointment at my nhs dentist due to illness. as this was the second appointment i missed i have been removed from the practise. at my previous visit i had a filling in my front tooth, which was only slightly discoloured and was not painful at all. since havin this done my tooth is extemely sensitive and it hurts when i touch where the filling is. Shall i see if the same dentist can fix it for me at the practise where i cant go or shall i just find another nhs dentist. also i was wondering the best whitening process would be either professionally or from over the counter, my teeth are naturally yellow n this really gets me down. i wont even have my picture taken. can this be done on the nhs???

How can i correct tooth discoloration and front teeth are translucent are these about to crack?

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have had a root canal done about 13 years ago on one of my front teeth. Now, I am starting to see discoloration, and the tooth has a very little chip (which can’t really be seen). My question is do you have any suggestions what I can do to fix this problem of discoloration? Crown? Venners? Also, the rest of my front teeth are very thin on the bottom, also translucent. Do you what that may be from, and how can i avoid having problems with those teeth in the future? I just think that those teeth may be more prone to cracking? Is that true? Thank you very much for answering my questions.
