I Have A Discoloured Front Tooth Which Needs A Veneer. How Do I Choose The Right Dentist?

Monday, October 20th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I have a discoloured front tooth after having root canal treatment a few years ago. Which then got darker and darker. Are there any other options apart from a veneer to cover this up or make the colour the same as my other teeth? I am considering veneers but don’t like the idea of them falling off in a few years. How do I choose the right dentist? My local dentist cost is £200 which is considerably cheaper than I have seen online which worries me. Your advice will be appreciated.

My teeth are feeling loose, please help!

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012
Q.

Dear Dr. Moore:  I need your help. My dentist has no idea as to what is happening, and I am seeking another professional opinion as to what I should do in regards to this problem: I also finished my dental benefits.

I have had root canal treatments and crowns on teeth 7&10, I am suffering from severe pain now on both teeth, and my teeth are loose.

Also, teeth #8&9 have denal implants and crowns on them. Tooh #8 got split in two because of an accident I was involved in when I was 8, I am now 42, does this have anything to do with it?

Dark spot found on tooth #10 on ct scan.

Please help me. Thank you for any advice in advance.

What are my treatment options for a dark tooth and sinus problems?

Thursday, March 29th, 2012
Q.

Hello there
I have been seeing an endodontist for the last two years regarding a problem tooth (top right, second front).
I went to see her following years of a non-painful ‘bubble’ appearing on my gum and following 2 root canal treatments which had not been done very well (spaced a few years apart).
The specialist carried out a third root canal but the ‘bubble’ (sinus) persisted which sometimes (infrequently) discharges fluid.
I have no pain but do understand the infection will have to be treated eventually by apicoectomy, as is her recommendation.
I have a dilemma in that what most bothers me is the colour of the tooth which has darkened a lot. It is at the front and I am really self-conscious of it. It is affecting my confidence and I don’t like smiling and have avoided photos for the last year.
The endodontist attempted ‘internal bleaching’ but it has not really worked. She has now recommended I go to another dentist for a crown/veneer.
However – my dilemma is I can’t have a crown/veneer until 3 months following the apicoectomy. I am looking at a dark tooth for another few months which is frustrating.
She has also quoted a staggering £450 for an apicoectomy which I am just unable to afford right now. (A year ago she quoted £200 so I am v upset at the leap in price).
I really want to do what it takes to get my tooth white again. And it seems the only way to get there is to have the apicoectomy first. I’d be quite happy to leave the apicoectomy for a few months as I have no pain at all (just a bubble which appears now and then) but then it would mean having to live with a dark tooth (and now a dark gum which has become worse over the last few months) and I now want to fix it.
I wanted to ask if you can recommend an alernative action to the apicoectomy (ie – do I have rights with regards to the big increase in price or is this something I can do on the NHS)? Would an apicoectomy also help eliminate the dark gum?
Thank you for any help

Are Lumineers appropriate for my dark teeth, or can I go with my preferred choice of internal bleaching?

Friday, October 29th, 2010
Q.
Dr. Bohara: I had an injury to top front tooth. I had a root canal & internal bleaching. The bleaching lasted a couple of years. The tooth has turned dark again. I have a new dentist this time who is recommending a lumineer. I asked her what she thought about another internal bleaching, but she said they frequently don’t last. She also said the lumnineer would be warranteed for 5 years. My insurance company has agreed to pay for the lumineer, but won’t pay for the bleaching. Yet, I’m concerned about having my tooth surface sanded down when it looks perfectly fine as is. What would you recommend?,
