i got a chipped veneer replaced with crown and now it is absysses what should i do?

Sunday, April 19th, 2009
Q.
I had 10 veneers placed on my upper teeth because my front two teeth has white spots. I have had one absyss last year that was not diagnosed despite numerous trips to my dentist until I was in excruiating pain. Last month another veneer chipped, he replaced it with a crown, and now it is absyssed. I also think that my front tooth is infected as they both are killing me. I am calling on Monday but don’t knonw what to do. My dentist will fix the problems free but how much more can I take? What should I do? Is this normal? I thought they were protected if the veneer was in place.

Are there any clinical trials for implants/crowns that I could take part in?

Q.
I have bad enamel erosion on my teeth which started to appear when I was a teenager. I had extensive orthodontic treatment and once my braces were removed my orthodontist noticed how much erosion there had been where my teeth were not covered with my braces. My sister’s teeth are in a similar condition and we were both sent for numerous tests to check the acidity of our saliva but with no conclusive results. The erosion has steadied but I still notice my teeth shrinking. Each time I visit a new dentist they are shocked at the state of my teeth and ask if I have been bulimic or been a drug user. I haven’t but I can tell that they never believe me. I had one specialist suggest that it may have been caused by acid reflux. Whatever the cause, my teeth are not in great condition, they are straight from the orthodontics but are stained from lack of enamel and eroded. I feel uncomfortable smiling and never open my mouth when smiling in photos. I was told by one specialist that I saw that I would have to eventually have to have all of my teeth crowned. I would love to have this work done but there is no way that I am able to afford it. I attempted to pursue treatment through the NHS but they do not recognise it as essential yet. Are there any dentists or clinics that can provide treatments in installments to make it more affordable? Is it worth travelling to another country to seek treatment? Are there any clinical trials for implants/crowns that I could take part in? I would really appreciate any advice that you could give me. Thank you

should i have all porcelain crown on my front teeth to remove the dark line at the top

Sunday, April 19th, 2009
Q.
Hi. Two weeks ago I had my two front teeth crowned (porcelain on metal) as they were discoloured following an injury in childhood. I am very unhappy with the crowns and it is causing me a great deal of distress. They are a different shape to my previous teeth, the colour has not been matched very well with the adjacent teeth, and there is a dark line around the gum area. I have voiced my concerns and am now waiting to hear back from my dentist as to what options are available to rectify the problems. However, he has stated that this is going to take a few weeks!! My main concern now is that if he replaces them how likely is it that my original tooth stumps and gums could be damaged during the process? Also, various websites have stated that the dark line around the gum is due to the metal showing through and that all porcelain crowns eliminate this problem. In my case I was recommended the porcelain and metal due to the close bite I have with my bottom teeth and therefore more strength being required. One website has stated that to avoid the dark line the top of the crown could be finished with just porcelain instead of the metal, do you have any experience of this? At the start of my treatment I told the dentist I wanted the best possible aesthetic finish even if it meant I had to pay for the treatment (I am an NHS patient) but I feel he has gone for the cheapest option and I now wish I had paid for private treatment with another dentist. I cannot tell you how distressed I am, it is a nightmare, and any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

could i get a crown on the nhs and could it be white

Saturday, April 18th, 2009
Q.
Hiya. i recently recieved root treatment on one of my back teeth but my dentist said she wasnt able to complete the treatment because one of the roots was hard to get at. she put in a temp filling for a month to see if i had anymore pain but thankfully not so she filled it with the nhs fillings. ( im 17 and a full time student so i get dental treatment free ) that happened in january. its now mid april and the tooth that was filled has compleatly cracked up the side. i was wondering what i could get done to repair this as the filling can be seen and feels uncomfortable in my mouth. could i get a crown on the nhs and could it be white as i hate the thought of having a gold tooth. many thanks. 17, northern ireland

how long do crown last and is there any cheaper that would be cheaper for me

Saturday, April 18th, 2009
Q.
I recently got a root canal preformed on tooth 10 in the top left of my mouth. My dentist is suggesting a LAVA crown which will run $800. Does this seem like a reasonable price for a LAVA crown? They also said that my tooth is so decayed that it might have to been removed in the future if the infection does not go away…how long do crowns usually last, and is there an option that would be cheaper for me just to have the tooth pulled and replaced? Thank you so much for you time.

Can my broken crown be built up again? Also how much will this damage my pocket?

Saturday, April 18th, 2009
Q.
I recently banged my mouth and have chipped the crown on my front tooth. I am anxious about how he will fix it, and also the cost. Can a crown be built up again? Also how much will this damage my pocket? There is a slight ache in this tooth as well, is this due to the disturbance in the chipped crown? I am nervous to go to the dentist as I recently had a tooth surgically removed by students at a dental hospital and it took them 3 hours to remove it! Which was not a pleasant experience.
