Is there an alternative to wearing dentures?

Q.
I have dentures for a front tooth that is missing. My teeth are not in good condition, but I am determined now to visit the dentist. Is there an alternative to wearing dentures?

Restorative work and Orthodontics

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
Hello. I am 50 yrs old and was treated for severe periodontitis in Feb 2008. I already have overcrowded teeth and they are now protruding because of drifting. In addition I was told I suffer from bruxism. I have always had dental checkups and been assured “everything was ok” in spite of complaing about recession around a crown an pain on biting. I am destroyed by how my teeth now look and am suffering panic attacks and depression. All this was a huge shock as I had no idea. I want some restorative work, but my new dentist has suggested I think about orthodontics instead. I’m not sure the teeth will have a good appearance even if I endure it as they are now yellowing with large gaps. I have nearly sent myself mad looking at solutions on the web and am terrified of choosing the wrong dentist after a catalogue of poor treatment in the past and also am not in a postion to pay a colossal amount of money. Am I doomed to dentures? Thank you.

I have protruding front teeth which are crowns, I am considering Inman Aligner

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
Hello. I have been for some time now considering orthodontic treatment for protrusion of my upper front teeth. I have been looking at using an inman aligner. My two front teeth are crowns, attached to the small stumps filed down from my original two front teeth which I smashed. Would I still be able to have this treatment, or any other?

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
Hi, Im 29 years of age and should of had a brace when i was 18 but i stupidly didnt. I now have speech problems, my lower front teeth are crowded and one of my upper front teeth is protruding. My teeth and gums are healthy in general. Could these problems be corrected with crowns , bridges and veneers without having to wear a brace? thanks

There are hairline cracks in the veneers and crowns on my teeth and the dentist says that it is due to grinding

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
I had veneers and crowns applied to the top 6 of my teeth 5 months ago. My two front teeth are actually crowns. I went in for a cleaning today and the dentist advised me that I have 2 hairline cracks. One on my front (crown) and one on a side veneer. He believes that I’m grinding my teeth at night and that is what caused this. I don’t think I grind my teeth at night. Isn’t it awfully early for me to be already getting cracks in the veneers/crowns? He is replacing both for free but does not know how well they will match the remaining 4 when complete and wants me to start wearing a mouthgard at night.

The crown on my teeth is too large

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Suri! Last week I had a root canal on my #14 molar and had a crown put on. After the root canal I had my temporary crown on for about a week and a half with no problems. My dentist put my permanent crown on two days ago and it seemed much larger than the temporary and the adjoining teeth. I experienced a lot of pain for the first day and could not chew on it. Yesterday I went back to the dentist complaining that the crown was too large and I wanted him to change it. He told me he thought it was ok and the pain should go away in a few days. I’ve had 4 crowns done before and never had that kind of pain afterwards. Right now the pain has pretty much subsided (except for a little tightness) and I can now chew on it, however I still feel the crown is too large. Should I insist that he changes this out since I feel I shouldn’t have had pain for 2 days afterwards and cosmetically it does not coform with the size of the adjoining teeth?

I have receding gums, my teeth are large, I want a new smile

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Q.
Can Veneers be an option for me as I have quite severe receeding gums, so much so that I have twice had to have my crowns replaced and they need doing again. I have very discoloured teeth, and they are very large now, due to the gum problem, I desperatley want a new smile, but am unsure which route to take, and cost is a large factor also.

The veneer on my two front teeth came off

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hello. I need some advice regarding a chipped front tooth on the right side. I chipped it some time ago and i went to see my dentist and he said he could fit a veneer for me. He fitted one on the chipped tooth and one on another front tooth because another overlaps it and he said he wanted to make them look at lot straighter. The veneers came off about a week later because he said the two front teeth are not the same size as each other and overlap. One of them keeps pushing the veneer off the fron tooth and he said it is major works and i should ask him about that later because he is not sure what to do. I am really depressed about it and i hate my image because of it. Could you give me some advice about what could be done. I am also a single mum who relys on NHS dental care so what else will they offer apart fronm veneers. Thanks
