My Front Teeth Are Weakening Slightly, Which Cosmetic Procedure Would Be Best?

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013
Q.

Dear Dr.,

I’m thirty years old, and my two front teeth show some signs of wear and translucency at the bottom. I’d like to strengthen them and make them a few millimetres longer. This is because I am a little fearful of any negative risks to them in the future. I couldn’t stand it if one of them started to fall out or die! Obviously I understand that this is not really a dental health issue yet so I suppose you could call it an aesthetic issue.  If veneers are not the appropriate option for this, could you advise me what would best suit and what the estimated cost might be? It might be that they don’t really need too much work at all but I would like to know what approximations you could make.  I assume that any procedure would be done by a cosmetic dentist, and not through the NHS. I live in Cambridge, near one of the Oasys dental centres.

Sincerely, thank you.

What can I do about discoloured composite implants?

Q.

I have 2 implants which are discolouring as they are made of composite. I paid £4,500 for the treatment should they have been made of porcelain?

Is composite bonding aesthetically and durably the best choice when restoring chipped teeth?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

My 7 year old bumped heads today with a classmate and one upper front tooth and two lower front teeth have been chipped. We have been to the dentist who has said it is only enamel which has been chipped and they are confident there are no fractures, The lower teeth are too sensitive at present to bond with composite filling – it will have to wait til next week. I cannot help but feel saddened that he has chipped his permanent second teeth, Is the composite material hard wearing, natural looking and the best option at present? I need a positive opinion on this if possible, thanks.

How can I improve the appearance of my front tooth?

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010
Q.
I had a root canal done on my front tooth (due to a previous trauma) about 2 years ago. The dentist applied composite material which she said at the time was temporary. Although since going back she advised that it is best to leave it in place. The composite is A1 but is still darker than my other teeth. Apparently this is the whitest available (or certainly on the NHS). Also the composite material makes the tooth stick out more than the others. What is the best advice in terms of onward treatment that my improve the appearance of this tooth?,
