Hi Dr Mark, I have several new veneers – top front. They were fitted 5 months ago and I’m hearing little sounds and getting a slight feeling like pressure in those veneered teeth before I hear the sound. Almost like a pop. My dentist checked my jaw and also tried to see if the veneers were loose but they are stuck on. They were x-rayed too and the only thing was a black area under one veneer which the dentist said was probably a thicker bit of the cement. The noise is definitely from my veneered teeth and I didn’t have it with my old veneers only my new ones. I notice the sounds mainly after I’ve had soup or coffee or brushed my teeth but not only then. It’s really puzzling and my dentist is at the point where he has run out of ideas for what is causing this. Have you ever heard of this kind of problem with veneers?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011Hello Dr Mark Hughes. I hope you can help me. Can you tell me how is the composite glued on bonded retainers supposed to feel? I had to have mine topped up again after 10 years of wearing but the stuff another orthodontist has used tastes like plastic and is making me feel quite sick. I have never had a problem with it previously but the stuff he has used feels very different to the cement used previously. It has been this way for around three months and has not got better. In my case can it be trimmed down and another material be put over the top of it? Its really getting me down. Thank you for your time and all the best.
Is there anyway to stop my bridge falling out?
Tuesday, March 15th, 2011Hi, My Bridge fell out after the dentist need to drill through the back of the bridge for root tretment.Bridge is the frount three teeth.It is now 6 weeks later and this has not been fixed.She said she is waiting for NHS apoval. I said I would pay myself as I am going holiday now “next week” with this hugh space.I still have the bridge that came out but she will only place back in with temp bond paste and it back out after a few days, she also gets a bit cross when I keep going back to get the bridge stuck.Is there any thing I can do to stick this old brige to get me through my holiday,
Can the cement for bonding wire retainers cause lips to be sore?
Friday, March 11th, 2011Mark, can the cement used to bond bonded wire retainers to the teeth after orthodontic treatment cause a sore mouth and lips? I’ve had to have it redone at a different orthodontic practice as it had worn over time but since i’ve had it done my lips feel sore and inflamed. The cement feels smooth but its a different feeling of smooth as to how the cement felt in my mouth previously from when it was first done. Have you seen this at all in patients and whats the best thing to do – thanks
Are lumineers better than dental veneers?
Thursday, March 25th, 2010Hi. Are lumineers cemented in place with traditional veneer cement and if so how are they removed to leave the tooth underneath undamaged? Also, if the tooth is not cut down do the lumineers make your teeth stick-out? Are lumineers better than normal veneers? thanks,
