How Can I Get Help With My Missing Teeth?

Friday, March 13th, 2015
Q.

I am a 32 year old female who has lost her front bridge because of a car crash. I am now on jobseekers and also getting bullied (the police are helping). I started to self harm and I hate myself for starting that. I do not want to seem vain but I am missing 3 teeth in the front. Everyday life is hard to deal with. My wish was to have an family but I no longer want that now as I think who would want someone like me with no teeth? Please help me, I really don’t want to give up on life. I do not know how or where to start. I need any help or info. Many thanks, looking forward to hearing from anyone.

What Would You Recommend for Black Marks on the Teeth?

Tuesday, February 24th, 2015
Q.

We are just an ordinary run of the mill family with a 14 year old son. He took a bad knock on his two front teeth during a football practice session last year. There are now black marks on these teeth. Our dentist wasn’t worried by these when she saw him a couple of months later, but I think they are permanent, and they are bothering him. I think he may need some cosmetic work. What do you reccommend I should do next?

How Can I Restore My Smile?

Friday, February 13th, 2015
Q.

Hi. When I was a teenager I was in an accident which basically ruined my teeth. After my first child and with a horrific fear of dentists but an even bigger pain in my mouth I decided together my teeth ‘sorted’ once and for all, I was put to sleep in an operation which I thought was to remove 4 teeth, when I awoke 10 had been taken out as they were just crumbling. I’m now 24 with a bridge across the front of my mouth and substantial gaps, I have no bottom teeth except my front 6, I hate smiling, I hate everything about them, eating is near enough impossible. I can’t even remember the last crusty roll/biscuit I ate, at least before I didn’t have to worry about my gaps showing or my bridge falling out. What are my options? I’m with a new dentist now and even though I have had drastic teeth removal my other teeth are basically crumbling too, the damage is done. Is there anything I can do?

My Tooth Is Failing With Gum Recession And Is Attached To My Bridge. What Are My Options?

Tuesday, October 14th, 2014
Q.

Hi Marcus. I lost a central incisor as a child having been knocked off my bike and I’ve had a bridge attached to my other one ever since ( Maryland bridge). I’m now 30 years old and the tooth that’s remaining is failing with gum recession around my remaining central incisor with a dark root and it needs to be extracted. To avoid a bone graft, I’m looking to get both my laterals extracted and implants placed to support 4 unit bridge. Would this be possible for me as I can’t afford bone graft along with a gum tissue graft to correct the effected area. Thank you.

I Need My Veneers Replacing And Have No Choice. Would This Still Be A Considered Cosmetic By The NHS?

Thursday, July 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi there. I wondered if you could help me?
I had an accident approximately 10 years ago and knocked my 2 front teeth out. I had veneers fitted and unfortunately I have fractured one and both have dropped considerably. I need to go to my dentist but wondered if you could give me some advice as I’m told you can not get veneers on the NHS as they are for cosmetic reasons, however I originally had them on the NHS and as they need replacing due to them coming to the end if the life it’s not for cosmetic reasons but more through medical or through no choice. Can you confirm if this is true and approximately how much would it cost? Thanks.

I Damaged My Teeth As A Child. I Am Set To Wear A Bonded Retainer But I Worry About Keeping It Clean. What Is Your Opinion On This?

Friday, May 30th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I have a six months smile brace on at the moment that I have been told will hopefully be removed in a months time. I am also having whitening and a couple of crowns, one a replacement on my front tooth the other to cover a dead tooth. I damaged my teeth as a child falling down stairs. I have been told that I will be given a permanent fixed wire retainer on the back of my teeth for life, but I am worried that not only will this affect my bite when I eat and I also worry about keeping it clean, what are your opinions on this? Thank you for your time.

I Had A Bridge Fitted For Cosmetic Reasons But It’s Changed My Gum-line. Is There Anything I Can Do?

Friday, May 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark,

4 years ago I had 2 bridges fitted across my top front teeth for cosmetic reasons, partly to cover a discoloured tooth which had been bumped years before. When these were fitted, my gum line changed massively and looked terrible and I noticed my new tooth was discoloured like the previous one.

Now, 4 years later I am as self conscious of my new smile as I was of my old one and feel like I have paid £3000 for nothing. I have spoken to the dental practice but they have basically told me I have to live with it at the same time as admitting to me that they wouldn’t be happy using my smile as an advertisement for their cosmetic services.

What can I do if anything?

I Got Knocked Off My Bike And Fractured My Tooth. Would Treatment For This Be Available Through The NHS?

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello,
I got knocked from my bike by a car last week and have fractured upper left 2, sublimed upper left 1 and chipped upper right 1. My dentist initially advised me to leave everything for a week and constantly wear my Invisalign aligner. I have done this and returned to the dentist today. I have been told this morning that upper left 2 has a vertical fracture with exposure of the nerve and needs to be removed. I have a few questions about treatment options. I have spent a lot of money and time over the last 5 years having orthodontic treatment and don’t want to have a noticeably abnormal tooth. What would be the best treatment option for this and would there be any way of getting some funding on the NHS to help pay for treatment?
Thanks.

I Fractured My Teeth When I Was Young And Now The Cracks Are Opening. Could You Offer Me Advice On How To Sort Them Out?

Wednesday, May 7th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. When I was a child I was involved in an accident and got run over by a lorry as I hit the ground I landed on my chin braking my jaw both sides and cracking a lot of my teeth. As I was only young and it was hair-line fractures through my teeth I was told there was nothing they could do. But now as an adult and after losing a few teeth all the cracks are opening and it’s only going to get worse. I was a heavy smoker and coffee drinker but I have given them up. Please could you offer some advice as to how I go about sorting them out.
