Should I remove or leave the iodine swab in?

Q.
I recently had an upper molar removed 7 days ago, an iodine swab was put in the socket after it had been cleaned, does the iodine swab come out on its own or does it dissolve? I havent seen it come out yet, should i go back to the dentist?
A.
Most swabs dissolve without further treatment however I recommend that you phone your dentist for details of the product used and the exact instructions.

I had a tooth extracted and the gum was split exposing the bone. This caused pain and a dentist put iodine soaked gauze in it. It came out after about 6 hours. Is this normal? She did say it may fall out but i expected it to be longer?
