Should I get my wisdom teeth out first and then get braces on my upper teeth again?

Q. I have had braces when I was younger and have permanent bonding at the back of my teeth to keep them in place. However, I have 4 impacted wisdom teeth that seem to be pushing against my other teeth, and now my one front tooth is longer than the other. My orthodontist doesn’t understand how this could have happened because my lingual bonding is intact. What should I do to correct this? Should I get my wisdom teeth out first and then get braces on my upper teeth again?

A. Crowding at the front of the mouth occurs at the same time as wisdom teeth erupt even when spaces are present in the line of teeth. The probably that the wisdom teeth caused your crowding is low, the decision to remove them is based only on the symptoms local to the wisdom teeth.
An orthodontist who has examined your mouth is the best person to help you.
