My top teeth are pushed upwards and bottom teeth backwards

Q. Hi i,m 30 years of age and have recently occurred problems with my upper teeth as they have started to push upwards and my bottom teeth are moving backwards. i have generally had good teeth all my life and now i don,t know whats happening. i have recently strted flossing and am not sure if that could be the cause, although i do not have sensitive gums. please tell me that could i have a gum disease of some kind which i dont know about and how can i solve this problem, will i need braces or can i solve them with just retainers thanks.

A. Floss doesn’t cause gums to receed but if you have gum disease colud be the reason.
The best thing to do is to have your gums checked by a dentist that has a hygienist as part of the team. This way you know that the proper checks will be carried out.
Gums don’t necessarily bleed or feel sensitive when you have gum disease so it can occur unnoticed for a while.
Another reason gums can receed is due to the bite, ie the way teeth function and whether they interfere with jaw movments. Another sign for this is wear signs on the teeth.
If you go to a dentist they will be able to let you know what is happening.
Don’t worry because these problemas can be sorted out.
Kind regards
