my teeth are decayed on the gumline

Q. Hello, I’m 24 and suffer with teeth that are decayed on the gumline. This means i don’t smile much (or if i do i just dont open my mouth too wide. My dentist says that this is probaby due to a combination of poor diet and not enough care in my teens. I have had a couple of white fillings to a couple of them. Would veneers be an option for a more asthetically pleasing look and if so how much do they cost and can they be fitted over the white fillings already in place?

A. It is possible for you to have veneers but these will fail if the problems that caused the decay are not yet resolved the veneers will fail in the same way.
The white fillings will have to be removed for the veneeers to be placed because it always better to bond veneers to tooth surface rather than filling material. Gums also have to be completely healthy for the success of veneers. Veneers cost between £600 -£1500 each.
Prices vary according to experience of the dentist and laboratories used to fabricate them. If you are going to have placed then go to a dentist that pratices this treatment routinely. Ask to see a portfolio of before and after photos of cases that have been completed so that you can see the standard of work
Kind regards
