My son has Asperger’s syndrome and his teeth are awful now, what can we do about them?

Q. My son has Asperger’s Syndrome and is 17. He was very ill a few years ago before he was diagnosed & began making himslef sick. This started the decay in his teeth, but he still has v poor dental hygeine and will not brush or let me near to brush and is very nervous of dentists.I have contacted a few in the area but they are loathe to treat him due to his nervousness. He is now starting to feel happier in himself due to medication (Prozac) but his teeth are in such a state it holds him back. Any recommendations? I am prepared to pay for his treatment even though he is under 18 as it is such a shame to see him with such awful teeth,
A. I would recommend he gets referred to the community dental services.
