My partner has a tooth ache and his whole face is swelled up what can the dentist do?

Q. Hi, My partner had crowns fitted to his teeth. Two years ago one came loose and he had to have it refitted. He has never had any problems at all, until now. He is really over the top with his cleaning and looks after his teeth very well (better than me. On Sunday he devekoped a tooth ache. On tuesday he went to his dentist who took an e-ray but he said he couldn’t find where the problem was. He gave him some Amoxicillin and said to take nurofen. He was in a lot of pain so I took him to the doctors on Wednesday she prescribed a painkiller. On Thursday we went back to the dentist as his whole face swelled up. The dentist gave him Metronidazole. Today Sunday he is still in absolute agaony, the swelling is still there and he cann’t open his eye. The painkillers don’t do anything and it has not improved he has a very high temperature. I am going to take him to the doctors again. The Dentist has said to come back in two weeks…… why is he taking so long to treat it? and what can he do? thanks so much

A. It sounds like he has a large abscess (infection).  Please go back to your dentist right away explain that he has a swelling he needs immediate treatment.
