My hygienist put a drill to my dental bridge and now my tooth had rotten how can i fix it?

Q. During a dental check up I was asked if I wanted a scale and polish. I said yes to this during which the hygienist got the drill out and started on the bottom teeth(previously this had been done by hand) she then went to an area where I had a fixed dental bridge and put the drill to it. It scared me a little and I put my hand up to stop. When I was with a previous dentist he said he would leave that are whilst cleaning but always said that I was to keep it clean. I have actually had the dental bridge now for about 30 years. During my latest check up the current dentist said there was a hole around the dental bridge area and said i had a rotten tooth fixed to the dental bridge. I am not sure about this, I have no pain and wonder if the hole he talked about was caused by the hygienist using the drill in a delicate area- should she have done this? Thanks

A.

The hygienist will have used an ultrasonic cleaner rather than a “drill”.  This used correctly will clean away tarter and plaque leaving clean teeth.  The likely hood is that the hole is due to decay and the hygienist has removed tarter covering over the decay.  None the less please voice your concerns with your dentist
