My doctor tells me that I must have my tonsils removed before I have a brace put on, why is this?

Q.
Dear Dr.,

I am a female 25 years old and i have tonsillitis. i went to dentist to put orthodontic braces and the doctor told me that i have to make a surgery to remove the Tonsils first otherwise even if i straighten my teeth now, it will get crooked again. Is that true? and do i really need to make that surgery? I hope you can help me. Thank you

A.
Long term blockage of the nose makes your mouth hang open, the tongue lips and opposing teeth therefore act diffently which may cause differnt pressures on the teeth and this maybe what the Doctor was saying.
