My daughter does not qualify for an NHS orthodontist
Q. My daughter has been assessed at a 2D rating for needing a brace. The orthodontist said she does not qualify for NHS treatment and would need to pay in excess of £2000 for treatment. Could you please explain the rating to me as I don’t understand how she does not qualify, yet needs this treatment
A. The fact that the NHS has put restrictions on children requiring braces is very distressing. This unfortunately has been the case since April last year. There is a banding system from 1-5 and only crowding severe enough to come into categories 4 and 5 can be treated on the NHS. The orthodontist has his hands tied. I know that orthodontic treatment is very expensive. It can range from £2000 to £6000.
Unfortunately if your daughter requires braces it will need to be paid for privately.I sorry to bring you bad news. This is the decision of the government and there isn’t anything we can do to change it.
