My bridge feel uncomfortable and bulky

Q. I have recently had a 3 tooth bridge fitted over three months ago. I am sure the dentist has fitted it incorrectly. It is very uncomfortable and feels bulky. The main problem is that on the inside of the bridge there is a lot of metal exposed under the gum where the porcelain does not cover, this feels like i have constant food stuck between the teeth and am constantly flossing to eliviate this sensation. My tongue rubs against the metal which is rough hence catching the side of my tongue and i have a constant metallic taste in my mouth. I am sure this is not right as i have a bridge on the adjacent side which i have had for 11 years with no problems whatsoever. My dentist sayes it is fine and I just need to get used to it. As 3 months have passed, and no improvement could you please give your opinion? Thank you

A. I am sorry to hear you are having problems. Obviously without seeing you or x-rays of your teeth it is hard to give you a definitive answer. The metal you feel at the back of the bridge is probably due to the fact there was very little tooth or space build the bridge out at the back. I think things ideally should have settled down by now. If the bridge does feel bulky it can be very unsettling as your tongue constantly rubs against it. I advise you speak to your dentist again to see if he/she will investigate it or can adjust the thickness to make it more comfortable. If things are no better it may be worth finding someone else to examine it and possible replace it.

I hope this helps you
