Is treatment necessary if there is no pain?

Q. hi, I slightly chipped a lower back tooth around a year ago. this tooth has a filling in it. a previous dentist said if it is not affecting me it can be left as my tooth would have to be drilled to replace the filling and smooth out the chip; which it is not affecting me. I recently went back to see another dentist and he said that i need the filling sorted to cover the chip as infections can go into the part that is showing the filling which can cause problems. I have no issues with the tooth and I do not want my tooth to be drilled further to make a larger filling to fit round the chip. does it really need doing if I am not in any pain? thatnks,
A. If your tooth are healthy and not prone to decay they do not need to be drilled.  However the existing restoration may show signs of leakage and if so will need treatment
