Is there any less noticable braces or any other alternative for braces

Q. Hi My daughter (17) has been given two options on nhs. one is the correct two years with full braces, which she wont do because of her age and the second to which she is keen but the dentist isnt which is to take out the third tooth on the right (pointed tooth) which is lying behind her main teeth and use a brace for one year to close the gap, which will cause some miss alignment. Or do nothing. I was wondering about private less noticable braces, what’s your opinion?

A. There are definately options for you daughter. I understand that at 17, noticeable braces are not the best option. Currently on the market are invisable braces-but the best option is to see a private orthodontist to discuss this. I would be more than happy to have a consultation with you and discuss what my own opinions are. It sounds as though the movement of one of the teeth may be tricky- so fixed appliance would be the preferrable option. The orthodontic appliance I was mentioning has the same brackets and wires as a conventional fixed appliance, however they are clear in colour. This will be less noticeable and your daughter I’m sure will be much happier!
I would definately advise against having the canine tooth removed- as this will create a very unsymmetrical appearance- and your daughter will more than likely want to rectify this in a few years with crowns/veneers. To prevent this, Orthodontics is the answer. In this case, it may take a little longer depending on the tooth position, but until I can see that, I cannot entirely say for sure howe long it will take.
Again, I would be more than happy to offer my opinion and refer your daughter to a reputable orthodontist.
