Is there a difference beween metal crowns and metal core ceramic crowns?
Q.
Hi
is there any difference in performance between the NHS metal crowns or a metal core ceramic one, or is it solely appearance? Does more tooth have to be drilled away in either case?

Good questions. Appearance is an obvious difference, as clearly all-ceramic crowns should look better than those with metal and often those with a metal core. In general all ceramic crowns require more tooth reduction than the other 2 options but the metal-porcelain option can often require the same or similar amount. What’s also crucial to the quality of the crown is the level of craftsmanship of the dental technician making it, and the skill and experience of the dentist preparing the tooth for it.
