Is it normal to have itching and numbness after a root canal?

I had a temporary crown put on until my root canal is done. had my root canal done 1 month ago. All was good for 2 days then from the back molar which was the tooth work on to the center of my chin went numb, I went through 2 rounds of antibotics, I am still numb and my chin has intensed itching, I was told that SOMETIMES THE NUMBNESS HAPPEN BUT IT DOESN’T NORMALLY ITCH.And I don’t need my crown put on until this goes away which may take months. Am I that unnormal?

This does sound a little strange as it is ongoing for a month. Do go back to your dentist who has your history and will advise you best.

i have this problem too and it sounds serious. should i go to my doctor or my dentist?
I had a root canal done a week ago and they put my temp crown on after and now it seems to be disintigrating, should I be concerned? My appointment to get my permanent crown on isnt until Tuesday

Hello.. I am due to have a bridge made up of 4 crowns fitted on the right and 2 crowns on upper left and then 1 crown on lower right making a total of 7 crowns…The problem is I am having this done on Monday morning at 9am…I am due to fly home to France on the Tuesday..I would have liked ‘more time’ to get accustomed to the new crowns…do you think I could ask to have them Temporarily fixed in…so that on my return I might visit my dentist and have him cement them in permanently after a period of adjustment. I would be grateful for your assistance. thank you
I’m having this same problem. I just had a root canal yesterday (04/05/13) and my temporary crown is itchy. I just want to yank it out and scratch. I tried to rinse with salt and warm water, thinking it would help, but it still itches. Please help me! It’s Saturday and I have to wait til Monday when the dentist office is open. Oh and my tongue is still numb and tingly.
