In 2001 I had Sagittal Split Osteotomy surgery now i am having a lot of problems can you advice

Q. Okay from the beginning: In 2001 I had Sagittal Split Osteotomy surgery to correct an overbite. At that time all wisdom teeth and four other molars were removed. Since then no problems other than slight numbness in my chin. I can live with that. 3 years ago I had a crown fitted after a tooth which was broken during the removal of the other molars finally cracked. after three months in pain and switch of dentists it was decided that I had to have a second crown fitted as the first was not correctly fitted and there was a gap leading to infection and pain. I was given antibiotics. Last year I had to have root canal treatment on this tooth as the pain was not going away and the throbbing started. Second course of antibiotics. 3 months ago the crowned tooth started giving me problems with hot and cold and my jaw throbs like crazy and i’ve had to give up coffee (no suger in it, just the coffee itself!)as it made it worse. Saw the dentist – he gave me my third course of antibitoics. Now my jaw has started clicking and I don’t know where to turn. The dentist tells me its likely the tooth needs to be pulled but i’m worried that its the jaw thats the problem rather than the tooth. I’ve lost all confidence in dentists and even though i’m with the NHS this tooth has cost me over £1000 already.

A. I agree that the tooth is the more likely cause of the problem not the jaw. Maybe you should try to seek a 2nd opinion before making a final decision on what to do with the tooth
