If I was to get veneers how would my teeth grinding when asleep affect them?

Q. I grind my teeth when sleeping. My front teeth are fractured and worn a little. How would the grinding afffect veneers?,
A. They can also damage veneers and I would recommend a night guard to protect your new veneers

have been griding my teeth and clenching my jaw for at least the last three years.(Since my first child was born) I experience pain in my jaws, head and neck pretty much on a daily basis. I have a plastic mouth guard which I wear to help protect my teeth but I find it very uncomfortable. It seems to push my jaw into an unnatural position and tho I know my teeth are protected I do get aches from wearing the guard. I feel now that my bite seems to have changed and the shape of my face around my bottom lip and chin look well, ugly! Should I consider a different approach to helping with the grinding? I cant really eradicate the stresses from my life at present but need some advice about saving my teeth and my looks!! Many thanks

Hi There may well be a bite appliance that’s more comfortable for you so I’d check with a dentist experienced in bite problems and often us cosmetic dentists can help as we have experience with bite problems too

Hello, my 7 year old son is grinding his teeth a fair bit at night. I don’t know if it’s stress, or if it’s because his bite is wrong – his upper and lower teeth do seem to ‘meet’. I am v concerned as his new teeth are just arriving and would like to know what treatment(s) you’d recommend to nip this one in the bud. He is starting to complain of tooth pain and I’m sleeping with him to stop him grinding. He’s not a v stressed boy, but it cd be stress. Best wishes

Hello, I’ve ground my teeth for a number of years and am now very conscious about my short front teeth. I wear a NTI night guard now but am wonderingif I can get my teeth lengthened with veneers? Approximately how much would this cost?

I have a experienced serious movement of my teeth after prolonged grindingwhich has shifted my smile alignment quite markedly. I am no longer happy to smile and find speech and eating is being affected. It is not immediatelyobvious to people but very obvious to me and in photos. i fear it may be too late and too set in but i would like to have a consultation with someoneto establish if anything can be done.

Hi there, I have never really been bothered about my teeth until a couple of years ago when my girlfriend said that i was grinding my teeth at night in my sleep. Since then I have noticed my teeth move out of place to the point where they seem very crowded and not particularly good-looking. I am 21years of age and dont have a lot of money to spend as I am saving for a house but it has got to the point where i really would like to sort this problem out before it gets a lot worse. Can you provide me with a quote? I am very interested in the ‘6month smiles’ program – how effective would you rate this? Regards

Hello, i am in need of a full set of dentures and would like them to be held on with implants but i also tend to grind my teeth at night, would this be a problem when wearing dentures with implants? Is there anything that can be done if it is? Thank you

Aiden Says :

in a case like this it is important to have sufficient implants to support the denture. A nightguard may be required in certain circumstances.

I grind my teeth a lot in the night, can they be lengthened – if so , and i go ahead, would this make a difference in my smile? is this expensive procedure?

Chaya Says :

Its a very difficult procedure as all the teeth need to be treated and as a result is quite expensive. If done correctly though you will recreate a much improved appearance of the teeth.

hi I am a chronic teeth grinder and was just curious about the effects this would have if i was to get invisalign? Would my teeth grinding damage the aligner in anyway and would my teeth grinding make the treatment less effective? My orthodontic problems mainly effective the front of my mouth, with my two front teeth crossing over. Any info you could give would be great and thank you for reading

Davin Says :

many people who grind their teeth wear invisalign the aligners only have to last 2 weeks so they should be fine.

I am afraid that your primary treatment should be focusing around a stabilization splint probably. A full consultation will be necessary to determine which type of a removable splint will be beneficial for you.

Hi i have two sets of dentures ,can i have veneers fited,i am 65 years.I have had three sets in three years ,and i still dont like how they fit my gums, would like some advice please.Iused to have protruding top teeth, but they made them flat, my bottom ones are to me leaning back so makes biting verry difficult ,sometimes they come forward when biting.I am at my wits end and dont know what else to do apart from spending more money again on something i dont like.Grateful for advice.

Sheldon Says :

You cannot have veneers fitted if you are wearing a full set of dentures. You may need to seek the services of an implant dentist who can stabilise your dentures using implants so that your dentures a re more comfortable. Regards

It sounds like it could be caused by your bite ( the way your teeth meet)
