i really dont want my molar and lower back teeth extracted is any other options available

Q. Hi, just been to the dentist today and been told I need the molar at the lower back extracted, I really don’t want this and wondered if there is any other options available, I am 22 and have a large cavity in that tooth where a filling has fallen out, on the x-ray you can see the cavity is almost down to the nerve but not quiet and I have no pain, my dentist put a temporary filling in today and that seems ok but I really don’t want an extraction if at all poss. Also abit worried about what I’ve read about the tooth on the row above the removed one having problems because there’s no resistance anymore after an extraction! Any advice would be great, thank you.

A. It’s difficult for me to tell you the best thing to do without seeing you or the x-ray, as a rule, if the decay is down to the nerve then you could consider extraction (and possible replacement) or root canal treatment. Perhaps if you are unsure then you should find another dentist for a second opinion
