I’m wearing braces again to fix my overbite again, will they fix it this time?

Q. ok, well so what happened was that I’ve been wearing braces for almost about …..2 and a half years before I got them removed. Then later I started wearing a retainer, (but only at nights). I kind of slacked off a little, (as in I skipped a few nights) and now after visisting the orthodontist, he told me that my overbite was coming back, my teeth were a little crooked (but when i looked in the mirror, it only moved a tiny bit) So now I have to wear my retainer 24/7 for the next 8 weeks in order to reverse these changes. My problem is that he said there wasn’t a garuntee that it would work, and if it didn’t I would be stuck wearing my braces again to fix my overbite. so I guess what I’m trying to ask is, do you think everything will be back to normal again by 8 weeks as long as I wear them 24/7 ?? I’m really scared that if I do have to wear braces that my mom will kill me. Thanks,
A. i don’t really know but wearing your retainer 24/7 will definitley help
