I have swollen gums after the removal of my braces advice?

Q. I am 27 and had brace on both my top and lower teeth for a year. Got it removed 2 months back, but now my gums r really swollen , have receded a lot , and there is gap between teeth and gums. I cant even eat properly due to the gap in gums around the molars. My dentist says that u will have to live with it now.

A. This sounds likely.  However see the hygienist to make sure there is no underlying gum disease as your gums should not be swollen

I’ve had braces for about 5 years now. But the gums to my upper teeth are all slightly swollen. I don’t see that much gum between people that have straight teeth and that’s my concern when I take my braces off. What can I do about this?

If your gums are swollen I would recommend that you go and see a hygienist. A hygienist can help you clean up the gums and reduce the swelling. She will also teach you how to clean them while you have your braces on. Then with gentle and regular brushing and visiting the hygienist regularly your gums should return to a healthy state.
