I have had a NHS porcelain crown fitted but it is coming away at the gum, should I go private?

Q.
I have had an nhs porcelain crown fitted and it has now come away from the gum and there is a black rim showing as well as a gap between my gum and crown. My dentist informs me that if i have another NHS crown the same thing will happen and i need a private crown at a cost of £595 .. Is this correct?
A.
i would say its more to do with the way the crown is made rather than nhs or private, you can use all porcelain crowns privately which don’t contain metal so perhaps thats what he means

I have just had a nhs metal crown on my top teeth at the back and was extremly shocked when I looked in the mirror for the first time. It wasnt explained at the time that these are made out of shinny metal material hardly subtle. Is it easy to get this replaced by a porcelian crown now its fitted?

i had a porcelain crown fitted in 2007, it cost me £1500 , my dentist told me that this would never fall out as its very stronge i remember him saying as a joke it will only fall out if you hit it with an hammer, last week 26/05/12 it just fell out. i was mortified, i went back to my dentist the following monday, he told me he was shocked this has happened but its gone over the 3 year guarentee, i was not aware this was on guarentee i did not sign anything about this no forms or anything, i also remember me asking questions when i had this done, if i had to come back every few months to check the tooth, but he said no you should not have any problems, it wont fall out, it will last a life time. Now from my monday appointment ive been told i can the reament i had done before for the cost of £400 or i can have the free nhs treatment, but this may leave black marking around my tooth, im all confused im sure i should be able to have this treatment done again for free, or at least request some of my money back, as now i feel ive had £1500 robbed from me,
