I have gaps on each side of my front teeth

Q. I am 17 years old and am contacting you for some advice. Ever since my baby teeth fell out and made way for my adult teeth i wos left with two gaps at the side of each of my front 2 teeth. I am exremely self conscious about them and they are really starting to lower my slef-esteem and make lose my confidence. I was wondering if there is any way to close these gaps and if in any way it is possible to have the procedure done on the nhs, as I or my family dont really have the funds to do it privately. I understand that my procedure is somehow seen as cosmetic and that may be a reason as to why I cant have it funded on the nhs. But to me a persons health is an holistic state and cannot just be seen as a physical thing. The appearence of my teeth are really beginning to affect me emotionally, and to me that is part of a persons health. I hope you can help me, or guide me in the right direction. Thankyou.

A. You can have braces placed on your teeth to have the gaps closed. I doubt very much that you would get the treatment on the NHS. Unfortunately this is not the decision of the dentist, it is a governmental policy so the dentists hands are tied.
The best option for you would be to have a consultation with an orthodontist to see if braces would help. If finances are a problem then it would be best to try to join an NHS practice. you probably only have the option of crowns or bridges.
If you are willing to wait until you are older there will be many more financial options available to you.
I know it is not what you want to hear and it is definately not an ideal situation.
If you live near a dental teaching hospital you could there and see if they would take you on as a patient. This way you would get free treatment at a very high standard
Kind Regards
