I have always wanted to have a straight, white smile

Q. Dear Komal, I have always wanted to have a straight, white smile so started asking my dentist what options I could explore. My teeth are in good condition but the front left tooth is turned sideways slightly which leaves a gap between the two front teeth when looking at my right side. The tooth to the left of the crooked tooth is also turned sideways. I had white filling put on these two teeth about 7 years ago to give them a straighter appearance but now it has turned slightly darker than the other teeth. My dentist first suggested veneers but after more inspection said white crowns would be best for the two ‘sideways’ teeth. The only thing is I think I would like to have the first 6 front teeth crowned or veneered as they are all different lenghts and my k’nine teeth are quite pointy. Are you able to mix porceline veneers and crowns when they are positioned next to each other and would they be noticeably different? I am only asking as I know it is not great to fit crowns to already healthy teeth as once you have had them done you can not go back to not having them, cost is also a factor. Also I would like my teeth whitened before the procedure. What would be the average cost for 2 crowns and 4 porceline veneers with full teeth whitening before hand? Or can you suggest an alternative. I was quoted £500 per tooth for crowns and £100-£150 for porceline veneers. Is this a good price for quality as I want them to last a very long time.

A. There is no need to have crowns placed on perfectly healthy teeth. Your problems can be corrected with veneers. The two teeth on the side can be corrected with wrap around veneers so that they don’t have to be drilled down into pegs.
I would advise against having 6 teeth restored. Either have 4, 8 or 10 teeth prepared. This is because the canine teeth form the junction between the posterior and anterior parts of the smile. If 6 teeth are done the end result looks disjointed and you will end up with a narrower looking smile and you may not be happy with the end result. I never place 6 veneers.
The price you have been quoted is too cheap for any kind of quality work. I am not saying that the dentist that you go to is poor quality, only that the laboratory used will not be very good if the veneers are only £150
As an example my price for 1 veneer is £1100.
All of my veneers are made in America and are of the highest quality labs. I am not saying that expensive is always best because there may be some dentists that charge a lot of money for their veneers but they may not have the right training and experience. You need to go to a dentist that carries out cosmetic dentistry everyday not just occasionally. These are your teetha nd hopefully the veneers should be on your teeth for a long time. It is definately advisable to go and have a consultation with a cosmetic dentist. They should be able to show you a portfolio and should also have the facility to provide an image for you so that you will have an idea of the end result.
good veneers will start from £600 each
I hope this answers your question
Kind regards
