I have a receeding gumline due to smoking and stained teeth
Q. I have a partial denture which does not fit very well, also some receeding gumline due to previous smoking and age, also smoke discolored teeth, I would like to get all my teeth done as I am now becoming very conscious of them, what treatment do you recommend many thanks
A. Hi many thanks for your enquiry, the first thing would be to say when you have gaps in your mouth due to missing teeth you always have four options:
1: to leave the gaps ( not the best option if you are concerned with appearance)
2: a denture ( a compromised option to fill the gaps with teeth but are not fixed)
3: using the existing teeth to fix a bridge to close the gaps and this is a fixed option.
4: implant retained crowns and bridges again a fixed option.
It all depends on whether your happy with a removable option of a denture, if you want something fixed it will always have to be option 3 or 4. And this will then depend on budget and circumstances on whether the implants are a suitable option.
The smoking staining should always we dealt with first, this can be removed my cleaning and stain removal treatments.

Is smoking permissible whilst wearing dentures? or does it make the dentures more likely to break?
Ideally you should not smoke you know that. If you smoke with your dentures in they will get stained dark yellow.
