Q. Hello, I have a Maternity Exemption certificate which is valid until November 2010. Does this cover all dental treatment that I may need? I telephoned my local dentist as one of my teeth has broken and was informed by the receptionist that I would have to pay to have it fixed. Is this correct? I will be a new patient so does that make a difference? Many thanks,
A. The exemption covers all NHS fees, the only charges that can be made are if you agree to private treatment not available or alternative to NHS Rob
I am registered at a private dentist and currently have a Maternity Exemption. I thought all my routine check ups and hygienic treatments should be free while my Exemption card still valid but my dentist said that the hygienic treatments are not free even with the NHS exemption. The thing is they don’t do the hygienic treatment in one go but asked me to do it in 4 visits and that means I have to pay 4 times. Is that right for them to do that?

i agree with this i went to see the hygienist asuming it was free with the maternity exempiton it wasnt till i was sat in the chair and she started work she said “you know its £45 for this treatment” i was shocked and said no i wasnt told i thoutht it was free.so i paid it and she said i will need 3 more visits, she didnt even finish the job properly i was so annoyed!
I’m currently on antibiotics for an infection in my bottom right tooth next to my wisdom tooth. The dentist says I can either have the tooth removed for free or root canal and crown which will cost £250. Is this right? I’m on maternity leave and my little boys 6 months and I can’t afford that.
i have a private dentist have been with them for over two years when for my check up with my exemption and was told i have to pay even for check up as they do not have an nhs contract although were happy for me to sign the childrens nhs forms.. am i entitled to free check ups at my own dentist
