I have a large gap inbetween my front teeth what would be my best option to fix it?

Q. Hi – I am 39 – and have a large (I consider it to be) gap (about 3mm) inbetween my front teeth. It was smaller, but I wore braces as a child and the gap seemed to get bigger – I do remember having something behind my two front teeth to pull them in, but that didn’t seem to work – I have a piece of skin inbetween them (don’t know the name for it) which I presume is causing the problem.. I am wondering what my best option would be, whether to get the skin removed and wear braces, or to have somesort of cosmetic dentistry to englare the front teeth to close the gap… kindest regards

A. Dear ,

The gum in between these teeth can be lasered or taken away surgically by a Periodontist. You then could opt for a brace or veneers, depending on which is more suitable for your circumstances.

A brace would be non invasive however the treatment time may be lengthy. Veneers would be the quickest option (approx 5 weeks from start to finish) however a small amount of tooth enamel has to be removed in order to give the veneer the right contour and you should be aware that veneers are irreversible.

You are very welcome to book in for a consultation at my clinic – www.umbrellasmiles.com for a more in depth opinion.

I hope this has been of help.

Kind regards
