i have a fear of numness could i be put to sleep and could the treatment be done in one sitting

Q. Hi dr.moore could you help me i have a real fear of numness in my mouth therefore i would absolutely insist on my mouth not being numbed, but i do want a smile that lights up the room and my face!…basically some kind of cosmetic dentistry,so i guess what i would like to know is could i be put to sleep and could it be done in one sitting.thankyou

A. Unfortunatley a general anaesthetic is not safe enough to be available in the dental surgery. It is possible to use sedation but you will still feel the pain of the teeth being treated. Another option is inhalation sedation using nitrous oxide similar to the gas used by a mother during the birth of a child. Look for a sedation practice in your area they may be able to help
