I had a fixed brace them my wisdom teeth came through and now they are crooked

Q. I had a fixed brace as a teenager however my wisdom teeth grew in very soon after having my brace removed meaning that my bottom teeth are no longer straigth and my top front teeth have been pushed forward making them crooked, as well as my bite being completely offline. I am unsure what is would be the best and fastest treatment for me and would welcome any advice you could give. Thank you.

A. Hi H, this is the biggest problem with brace treatments, once the treatment is over many people don’t wear or are not given a retainer and therefore eventually the teeth which are in a beautiful position initially move back. The best option would be to have orthodontic (brace) treatment again whether that be fixed(train tracks) or removable(invisalign) treatment, but this time make sure you have a retainer for the maintenance of the treatment. This can take as little as 6 months to 18 months in normal mouths. Hope this is helpful.

It depends on what sort of treatment is needed. Go and see your dentist or orthodontist and ask for a quote.

Can you help me with my problem please. I had a brace for 2 years about 5 years ago. I did wear a retainer, but i’m beginning to notice one tooth & one tooth only, is starting to move back to it’s original, crooked place. All my teeth are perfect it’s just this one tooth, which also feels a lot more sensitive than my other teeth. It’s only come out very slightly but i’m worried it’ll get worse. Seeing as thers only been a slight chance in its position, is it possible to get another retainer? or will i have to go through the whole process of getting a fitted brace again? T

Hello. Thanks for the enquiry. Maybe a simple aligner treatment might work to sort it out for you. Have a look at Simpli5, Inman aligner or Invisalign. A more traditional Hawley retainer may also work but I’d need to see exactly the problem to advise you accurately.

I am just making a quick enquiry about the Inman Aligner and Invisalign. Iwore a retainer as a teenager and after many years my two front top teeth have moved out and I now have a space at either side of the front two teeth. This is therefore the bit that I would like to fix. As an adult dealing with the public I would prefer not to have to wear the traditional retainer again and I am interested to find out if this treatment would be suitable for my problem and also in what costs and time scales would be involved in both of these processes. I appreciate that you probably won’t be able to give me an exact figure without first seeing my problem teeth but a ball parkfigure would be most appreciated. I also wonder, given that my teeth have been treated before if they will in fact just move again after treatment andtherefore would be interested in the process of the fixed retainer being bonded at the back of my teeth. Any further information that you can give will be greatly received. Many thanks

I used to wear braces from 12 years old until I was 15. I have had 4 teeth extracted. I am 33 and I have an overbite especially the 2 front teeth and gaps again especially noticable between my too upper front teeth. My gummy smile is also more obvious now than before. I have to add that i have never worn my retainers much. My question is can i wear invisalign braces to correct my overbite and gaps and reduce my gummy smile. I don’t want to consider orthognatic surgery at all. Thank you for your time

I had braces when i was 16 years old, that was about ten years ago and now my teeth have begun to return to their old position, which mainly involves my two front teeth being ‘buck’ I wanted to know if the inman aligner was able to return my teeth back to their straight position and also if there is anything to make sure they don’t return to the uglier position. I also wanted to ask about brace marks, My old brace was a fixed one and after it was taken off, marks were left, which when i had teeth whitening just stood out horribly. I just wanted to know whether marks would be made my the inman aligner brace? thank you

No as the brace is removable. Please bear in mind that white marks occur with fixed braces if your diet is not good or if your oral hygiene is not satisfactory.
