I Can’t Sleep As My Tooth Is Really Painful. Do You Know What Is Causing This?

Q.
Good morning. I just want to ask how I could release the pain in my tooth because inside my right front tooth it’s really painful I can’t even touch it because it’s so painful and it’s affecting the others sometimes? I haven’t slept all night because of the pain the only way to reduce the pain is when I drink cold water and take Ibuprofen but most of the time it doesn’t work. Do you have any idea why this is? Do I need to see my dentist? Many thanks, I really hope you can help me Dr Gambroudes.

Hello and thanks for getting in touch. It sounds like you have an abscess in this tooth. This is caused when the nerve in a tooth has died off and become infected. The infection causes pressure to build behind the tooth, which is what is causing the pain and making it tender to touch. Ibuprofen works because it helps reduce the inflammation caused by the infection. I would strongly recommend making an appointment to see a dentist. They will be able to do an examination and advise you on your options. I hope you get this issue sorted quickly. Regards, Marcus Gambroudes.
