I broke my molar tooth and when the piece came off the inside tooth looked black advice?

Q. Hi, I am having some dental issues especially with my molar teeth. Last July I had one of my molar tooth removed and this summer I broke another molar tooth. And when the piece came off the inside of the tooth looked black? Can you tell me what that is and is the inside of my other teeth that color?

A. It is common to see the inside of a tooth look black if there has been an amalgam or “silver” filling in the tooth as a result of corrosion of the metallic material which is why a lot of people are now looking at the more cosmetic, white filling materials
