i am uncomfortable with braces what are the options?

Q. I had braces (train track type) top and bottom in Dec 08. I’ve been told I’ll need to wear them for 1 1/2 years, have a operation to have my lower jaw brought forward (bite is out) then wear braces for another 6 months, then a retainer at night. This has been done on the NHS but my problem is they are so uncomfortable and they are making me miserable, I’ve lost a stone in weight and I’m quite slight anyway. They constantly rub, my lips struggle to accommodate the brace and and are constantly sore. I really can’t express who this is making me feel. What are options? 5 weeks or so I go back but they are always in such a hurry and have no time to see how I’m getting on with them.

A. I strongly advise that you stick to the treatment plan that has been proposed for you. I understand that it is uncomforatble and getting you down, but just think of the result at the end.
You are also getting all this for free. This may not mean anything to you now, but it is a very costly process to have as an adult- and can take even longer. As for the orthodontists not givign you any attention, then you need to speak up louder for them to hear you- they are experts in their own field and will offer advice if asked for. Good luck with your treatment and keep thinking of the end result.
