Q. Im getting porcelain veneers and my dentist has prepared my upper teeth (shaved back) ready for my implants and he has put a temporary in until the veneers arrive, but ive been in absolute pain for 2mths, voltarin takes the pain away, but why am i experiencing this pain its in my ears eyes and under my jaw? should i not be getting this done, but my dentist doesnt want to loose a 30 grand job!?and how long can you have a temporary in for? my upper temporary have been in for 2 mths, and my lower temp has been in for 6wks but my lower teeth have’nt been shaved back yet. Am really worried. any advice would be really great thankyou very much!!!!

A. Hi

I am sorry to hear about your circumstances.

If you are taking voltarol for your pain, you must be in significant pain. I would immediately see your dentist to find out the diagnosis for this. Also speak to your dentist about your concerns as he would know the situation better than anyone else.

Good Luck!

Most of our veneers are fitted 1-2 weeks after preparation. You should not suffer more than mild sensation, severe pain can cause permanant nerve damage. In the first instance make an emergency appointment to see your dentist in the next few days, you need to resolve the pain.
I would not proceed with optional cosmetic treatment until the pain has been controlled. this may or may not require additional treatment.

I had two veneers and two crowns fitted one week ago. The veneers are on my two top front teeth and the crowns on either side of the veneers. When veneers are fitted should I still experience pain on eating/drinking hot/cold? Also, should I be able to feel where the veneer has joined my tooth at the back? On one of the veneers I can feel a distinct groove where the veneer meets my tooth. Also, one of the crowns has a distinct bulge at the back and my tongue won’t leave it alone. Dentist assured me it was cement but it is definitely the crown.

Go back and see your dentist and have these problems checked out.
