I am scared to show anyone the inside of my mouth. What can I do?

Q. I am in desperate need of some advice and guidance . I am 34 yr old female married with three children and yet i have never showed anyone inside my mouth!!!! I know this may sound bizarre but i have in my mouth just behind my front two teeth a tooth that at one stage was next to my front teeth but has now moved completely behind i hate it, i never smile i dont speak clearly for fear of opening my mouth to far and people seeing and i hate to go the doctor with tonsilitis as i have to open my mouth and reveal this monstrosity i know i should have it removed but i am embaressed to show anyone even a dentist!!and secondly i am scared a anaesthetics HELP !!!,
A. From a dentist’s view your mouth wouldn’t be shocking, it is what we do everyday. You must tell the dentist about your anxiety before the check up and look for a dentist that will go at your pace, which may be slowly to begin with. If this seems too big a mountain to climb, consider some relaxation therapy / hypnotherapy / counselling to give you some confidence to make the first appointment.Good luck Rob
