I am recovering from bulimia and have erroded teeth
Q. Dear Dr Komal Suri I am a recovering bulimic, with the obvious damage to my teeth couse by years of purging and vomiting. My teeth have moderated erosion which includes a slight chipped front tooth. Is there any treatment you can offer to correct/restore the damage? I am desperate for a pointer in the right direction many regards
A. I have treated a few people that have suffered from Bulemia and I know it is a very hard thing to overcome. Usually with Bulemia all of the erosion affects the back surfaces of the upper front teeth and then this weakens the enamel and it begins to chip the edges of the teeth. I do not know the extent of the wear or erosion on your teeth but usually treatment requires whole coverage of the teeth. Crowns are too destructive so the treatment I have done on my patients is wrap around veneers. They are very thin and it is the least destructive way of restoring your teeth. My best advice would be find a restorative/ cosmetic dentist for the treatment.

im have been bulimic for 5yrs and my from teeth are chipping and my enamel is wearing off i have like a grayish color in the middle of my front teeth i try to take care of my teeth as much as possible but the more i try it does not help at all im really scared because i dont want to lose my teeth i dont have any money to pay a dentist im just really scared im too young to loose them can anybody help me with any suggestions on what to do please???..
Hi there. My name is kristi and I’m 21 years old. I’ve been bulemic for 5 years and my teeth hav defenitely taken a beating. I have gaps between all my front teeth. I went to the dentist yesterday to get temporary crowns on my 2 front teeth. I’ve noticed that U are concerned with finding money to get your teeth repaired. Unfortunately I dan’t have a direct solution for U, but I can offer some suggestions. try to see if some of your reletives or close friends can help U finantially. You could make a payment plan and gradually pay them back.I’ve got a small savings account and drained it yesterday to pay for my crowns. My parents are going to take me to a pretty reputable dentist in Mexico who charges $200.00 to crown one tooth. I’ve struggled so hard because of my Anorexia\Bulemia. All I think about is the appearance of my teeth. I hate it. I’m afraid to go out in public because I don’t want people to see them. I have the temporaries on now, and they do look better than my real teeth, but I can’t stop wondering if anyone notices them. It really bothers me. Anyway, My parents are going to pay for my crowns when I go to Mexico and I will gradually pay them back. I do know how U feel. I wish U the best of luck in your recovery and remember that once you experience life with reduced cravings to binge and purge or starve yourself, and learn to love who U are, it will get a lot better. I posted that thread 2 years ago and now have all of my teeth crowned since then. It’s worth it, but I had major finantial help. Like I said in my previous post, If you can find some sort of help from family or any other source, I defenitely recomend it. I really hope U are able to find the help you need. Maybe you can get in touch with a dentist in your area and set up a payment plan or something. I’m sorry I don’t know much else, I hope it helps!
i have been bulimic for2o years up until january of this year i am 37 and have around 14 fillings and 3 teeth missing and have had 3 deep root canal fillings over10 years ago one of them i regularly have an abcess that showson my gum every time i am very stressed i usually burst this myself. now iam wanting venners that are hollywood white i am having lots of plastic surgery in america in march 2012 and need my teeth ready for then i want as mant venners as poss i am not sure if i need implants or bridges also i knowroughly the cost but what time frame could all of this be done in i cant come and see you untill march could you give me some idea of how long it willtake as from then i will have 10 months is this enough time if i had to have implants etc. thankyou
