I am 16 and i am determined to get a set of veneers

Q. I am 16 and i am determined to get a set of veneers done. I am living in the UK and i was wondering how much it will cost to have a sull set of veneers and how long they would last if i had the best ones possible. I have had braces fitted on the nhs and to be honest i am not entirely happy with the results so i have always wanted a set of veneers and after seeing the results katie price had with hers i am more determined than ever. Please reply with suggestions and information if possible.

A.
I place veneers all the time and I believe in the treatment. I have had a lot of training in this field and now teach cosmetic dentistry so I am an advocate of it. I would always caution someone of your age considering veneers. You have to make sure that you have thought about the pros and cons. If you have veneers now you will probably have to have them replaced twice in your life time. To get the best result a full smile lift involving 10 teeth would be necessary and you have to go to a dentist that has experience in these types of procedures. Aslo the veneers need to be fabricated at a laboratory that makes them all the time.
Veneers can cost between £600 and £1500 each and so a full smile lift carried out by a dentist with experience could cost you £15,000.
Most private dentists can do veneers but you will not get a good result unless you choose to go to someone who carries out these procedures all the time.
The veneer procedure is also irreversible. The teeth need to be drilled in order to have the veneers fit. Even Lumineers which profess to be non destructive are also irreversible.
Please seek the opinion of a cosmetic dentist and if you are going to have veneers placed don’t cut corners and have them done properly.
I hope this helps
