How can I have my tooth restored without damaging other teeth by way of grinding them down?

Q.
I have a missing near-front tooth, which was originally replaced with a bayonet fitting into the root canal. This has now gone and root removed. I feel reluctant to have the two teeth either side ground down as the means to provide anchor points. Do I have any other options without tampering with and ‘destroying its ‘neighbours’?
A.
Dear Enquirer,
There are two ways of restoring a gap, the first is to have a fixed bridge which you have described and involves having the teeth either side of the gap to be prepared. The second way is to have an implant fitted which is a metal ‘screw’ device which is inserted directly into the gap, avoiding drilling the teeth either side. A tooth coloured crown is placed on top of the metal screw so that it matches with your adjacent teeth. You can read more about this option on this site.
I hope this helps,
Sunita
