front teeth have been knocked and cracked

Q. My son has just had an accident on his bike and knocked his front teeth. His two front teeth have cracked all the way to the gum. The dentist has said that one of his front teeth will have to come out more than likley. What would be the best solution considering he is only 11 years old? Will he be able to have implants fitted on the nhs?

A. He is unlikely to get NHS funding for implant work. I would check insurance policies that may provide some accident insurance.
Because he is 11 he will need a flexible solution that can adapt as his face grows. Implants and bridges are only suitable after facial growth and bone structure has stabilised (18-25yrs ) until then the solution is likely to be a denture to replace teeth if they cannot be saved. Good root treatments that prolong the front teeth until 18-25yrs might be worth investigating.
