Do I need to use my mouth guard when I run if when I run I dont clinch my teeth?

Q. Hello Dr. Moore, I just had a question about my crowns. I got crowns on 22 of my teeth because I had very bad stains, and I was told by my dentist that they are better than veneers because veneers tend to bend. He told me that he advises that I use mouth guards when I lift weights? Do you think that this is necessary? Do I only need one on the top when I lift weights or I need one on top and the bottom? Also, the job that I am in, we tend to run a lot. He advises me to run with my mouth guard in too. Do I need to use my mouth guard when I run, if when I run, I don’t clinch my teeth? Can I was my mouth with regular mouthwash (Listerine)? Can I consume alcoholic beverages fine?

A. If you are lifting heavy weights then a mouth gurad would protect the crowns. Perhaps you have a very hard bite and the dentist is trying to protect your crowns as much as possible, which is no bad thing
