Could you please advise me, in having porcelain veneers

Q. Hi Dr Bohara, Could you please advise me, in having porcelain veneers replaced is it likely that the health of the gums would be compromised? Also does the shaving down of teeth for preps for veneers reduce the life of the teeth? I am quite a nervous patient and frightened at the thought of losing any teeth in later life. Thank you

A. Hi

before carrying out crowns or veneers it is important that the gums are in good condition. If veneers are done then the patient should maintain good oral hygiene and regular visits to the hygienist.

When i carry out veners i prefer to remove as little tooth substance as possible , 0.5 to 1mm. If more has to be removoved then i prefer to orthodontically move the teeth in a more favourable position before i carry out the veneers.

Regards
