I thought receiving a permanent brace was a quick and cheap procedure, so why have I been quoted so much?

Q.

Hi, I am wanting to have my top left front and the two directly next to this front one to the left straightened. I have had a consultation with my dentist who has informed me that an Inman or Invisalign type brace won’t work and that I need to have a permanent brace fitted at nearly double the cost of the other two. I have looked at pictures on the internet and some of the images that have used both the above type braces have had teeth that look severely more out of line than mine are. I wonder if you could give me some advice. I have been quoted £1,500 for an Inman and £1,900 for a Invisalign but up to £3,000 for a permanent brace. I am quite upset as I thought this was a quick and relatively affordable procedure. I am 43 and would prefer not to have the permanent brace.

What ways are there other than braces to fill tooth gaps?

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012
Q.

HI, i had a tooth extracted from each side of my mouth, these were different teeth of either side. I have had braces on for over 18 months now, and the gaps have are not closed, one the one side the gap is quite significant. I am a dancer, so having good teeth are quite important as i can’t work with the braces on. My orthodontist says that the gap is going to take a long time to close, but i cant have the braces on for any longer. My dentist is wondering why my orthodontist took my teeth out in the first place. so i was wondering if there was any way of filling the gaps on both sides, one side is larger than the other. I dot mind what happens as long as it isnt orthodontics, because i need a fast solution and have had braces on for long enough . Thanks 🙂

My teeth are gappy after braces treatment because I stopped wearing retainers. What do you advise?

Q.

I’m 16 and I had braces about 2 years ago and wore my retainers and then stopped wearing them as I lost them and buying new ones was at an expensive price and my teeth are now gappy at the top (My bottom teeth are still very straight). I have a gap between my front teeth of about half of 1mm and I would really like to get braces again on the NHS as I really do not like the look of my top teeth (but I cannot afford to pay a lot of money) and wondered if getting braces again would be possible or if there were some way to close my front two teeth again without paying alot of money I would really grateful. Thank you

Would facial symmetry be ruined by removing canine tooth?

Monday, July 30th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I am 24 years old and interested in correcting my teeth. I have had braces before (when i was around 15-16, for a year), however, my teeth aren’t aligned properly. I don’t have an overbite or under bite. One of my lower central incisors is crooked. So the bottom 4 incisors arent in a proper order. My bottom canines are big and closer to the incisors than the molars. Also, my upper 6 teeth are a bit huge.

My dentist said that i have a good profile and don’t need braces for my upper teeth, but i will need to extract the C1 lateral incisor from my lower teeth (to avoid crowding) and have braces added. Apart from this extraction, 2 wisdom teeth need to be removed as well.

My question is : wouldn’t there be no symmetry since only one tooth is being removed and also wouldn’t there be a gap between my lower incisors? Would you suggest a similar treatment? your thoughts please and thanks in advance.

Do you think I’m suitable for jaw re-alignment surgery?

Friday, July 20th, 2012
Q.

My top jaw hangs over my bottom jaw quite far, the last time I went to the orthodontist the gap was 5.5mm but I think it has got bigger, I can fit the tip of my little finger in the gap. It causes me constant ache in my jaws, it feels stiff and causes headaches and pain around my face. I think my teeth also rest slightly more to the left. I have had 4 teeth out when I was around 13 and had braces several times through my teens. I wondered if I am suitable for jaw realignment as a friend of mine has had it done and he has been very happy with the outcome. I am 21 so I don’t know if I am able to get this on the NHS, or where I need to get more information. I have a doctors appointment on Wednesday to discuss it with my GP.

Will braces fix my lisp? I can’t find the answers I’m looking for online!

Friday, July 20th, 2012
Q.

I have a lisp and it is very noticeable. Whenever I hear a recording of myself speaking, I feel awkward.

My teeth, I’ve noticed that the whole left side of my bottom row teeth (starting after both two front bottom teeth) are straight. And then, on the right side is not. It just seems to have shifted position. And the right side is where me lisp is.

My top row kinda looks weird too but I’m not really sure.

Whenever I say “S” or “C’ or any other letters that sound like that, my mouth shifts to the right side.

I was wondering, what will fix this?? Will braces? Cause I’ve been looking into them and no where online has given me sufficient facts about it.

Any Answers??

I had one of my premolars removed and now there is large gap forming between my two front teeth, what can I do to stop this?

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012
Q.

One week ago, I had a bicuspid extracted on my right side. Two days later I woke up to discover a fairly large gap had developed between my two front teeth. It has continued to widen each day. My dentist said that the only way to stop it from getting any bigger is for me to wear a retainer at night. If I want to close it permanently, he said I will need to wear braces.
Yesterday, I went back to have him look at a crown that had been put on a tooth that had root canal several years ago because it was loose. As he was trying to remove the crown, my tooth broke into three pieces and so THAT tooth also had to be extracted. Now, I am very worried about this gap in my teeth. Is there any way to close it up again without going into braces? I am almost 54 years old and have no periodontal disease. Thank you.

Will my teeth move back into their original position if I don’t wear my Invisalign braces for 2 weeks?

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I have just had my bottom brace taken off and as was done with the top teeth, a fixed retainer was put in on the back of the front 4 teeth (on front 4 of top and of bottom teeth) and a mould was taken of the teeth for a plastic brace. My invisalign brace is supposed to arrive within 7 days but I am going on holiday for a week and am worried that the extra week of not wearing the invisalign will cause my teeth to move and the removable brace not to fit anymore. Will i have any problems with my removable retainer if i don’t wear it till 2 weeks after the fixed brackets were removed (keeping in mind that i have the fixed retainers on the back)??? Thank you for your advice.

I had the 6 Month Braces but my teeth have moved back to their original positions, why has this happened?

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012
Q.

I had six month braces on my teeth for about 7months and followed up with bonding on the top and retainer on the bottom. The teeth were beautiful — for about 3 months. The top teeth moved within the first few months; the bonding was removed and replaced with a retainer. I wore my retainers all of the time except while eating for the first one and a half years. The teeth have moved a lot and now I feel the top front are protruding and my bite has changed. I am very unhappy and concerned about this. I still wear the retainer and the retainers are now plastic; they crack frequently and the cost is $50.00 for each replacement, the last one only lasted about 3 weeks. This has been costly but more importantly, my teeth are still moving and not in a good way. I am 55 so I;m afraid that this option should never have been done on my teeth. I would like to hear your thoughts on these concerns. thank you.
