I’ve been diagnosed with severe periodontal disease

Sunday, October 19th, 2008
Q.
Hello Doctor. I have this problem. I’ve been diagnosed with severe periodontal disease 2 years ago. I did periodontal surgery 1 month ago and they pulled me out 12 teeth because they were damaged from the disease. I’m 27 years old. According to the doctors I’ve lost too much bone from the disease, maybe 40-50% in the lower jaw. Am I still a good candidate for implants?!Will the bone grafting be needed for my jawbone in order to get the implants done?! In case I decide to put implants after 3-4 years, will I be still a candidate for them? Thanks Also, I’m trying to decide which kind of partial dentures should I use, The flex partial, or the traditional metallic. Please help me make a decision: P.S. I have also a set of panoramic X-ray but i can’t post in this message for technical reasons. If you offer me your email address I will happily post it there. Thanks.

Have had a “knot” in my upper gum

Saturday, September 27th, 2008
Q.
Have had a “knot” in my upper gum around tooth #2 and #3 for almost 2 years. Dentist said nothing to worry about. Now after reg. Dr. said to have CT scan of this “cyst” it was found to be an abscess at the root of an old root canal. This infection has been here for 2 years….could this explain chronic fatigue, and stomach conditions with this untreated infection in body? Also endodotist now says he can do apicoectomy, but I’m wondering if at this point if an extraction may be best. Why is it so important to “keep this tooth if at all possible” if I can always get a bridge or implant later? Please advise… sooo tired mom.

i had a swolen face and blurrred vision after my gums were numbed

Friday, September 26th, 2008
Q.
I had to have two fillings in the hand side of my jaw. After having the injections to numb the area, my vision was distorted (seeing double). My face looked as if i had a stroke, and was considerably swollen. I have never experienced this before, is this normal reaction to having gums numbed for fillings. Afterwards i could not see properly for about 2.5 hrs.

My gums are swolen and i am on Phenytoin for Epilepsy

Thursday, September 25th, 2008
Q.
Good Evening, Being on medication for Epilepsy for years my teeth and gums are not in very good shape. I have had no seizures for 2 years and i am currently still taking Phenytoin 100mg once a day. My gums are inflammed, teeth pushed forward which can sometimes hurt when brushing. I understand the medication has done this, and know i am at an age and in a professional position i would like to know if i can improve my smile and boost my confidence more. Is there any advice you can share with me? I am also not a very comfortable person when it comes to dentistry too. Many Thanks
