I have always had terrible oral hygiene and I am now paying the price. What kind of treatment can I have to get my confidence back?

Monday, August 9th, 2010
Q.
I have always had terrible oral hygiene since a child because I refused to brush my teeth. I am now 21 years old and I am now starting to pay the price. My front tooth has a big chip in it, the next tooth has a huge chip behind it, I’ve recently lost half of of a premolar and I’ve had to remove a molar for also losing half of it. My teeth are also very off-coloured , I have black stuff just where the tooth meets the gum, my bottom gums are starting to get a little black growing on it and I have terrible breath. I really want my smile back so I can meet girls again and be happy without feeling embarrassed about my hygiene. What kind of treatment would I have to undertake to fix my rotting teeth and bad breath?,

I have been having constant problems with mouth ulcers and it’s now causing problems at work. Can you help?

Monday, August 9th, 2010
Q.
I had mouth ulcers investigated a number of years ago. The consultant was very uncaring and said it was a vitimin deficiency. However for years now I have been suffering with fevers, swolen glands, acidic stomach, running to the toilet and swolen glands which give me sore joints and a sore throat. This is causing problems at work as my employer is fedup hearing that I am sick due to re-occuring ulcers. Can you help?,

A diet coke habit eroded my teeth, and I’ve had them filled. Will they get worse or will the problems stop soon?

Monday, August 9th, 2010
Q.
I have some erosion/abrasion notches on each 4th tooth back from the front (upper and lower) and some transparency on my front teeth at the bottom. I think this is from a diet coke habit which I stopped last year. Will this get progressively worse over time although I am now very careful what I eat or drink or will this now stop? Also my dentist has filled the notches with bonding but each time they fall out but she doesn’t seem concerned. Will they get worse though as there is nothing protecting them when I brush and eat? I am very worried as I don’t want my teeth to wear away any further and end up with brown horrible teeth and having to have false one’s!,

I want to pursue a career in dentistry, any advice?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
Dear Sir,I am currently studying for my A-Levels at Woodhouse Sixth Form College in London. For my A-Levels I have taken biology, chemistry, psychology and math, and I am hoping to pursue a career in dentistry once I have completed my A-Levels As an extracurricular activity I have taken up an Extended Project Qualification. The EPQ provides an additional AS-Level, and can be based on any area that an individual chooses to explore. I have based my Extended Project on cosmetic dentistry, and the question I am investigating is: “Is the increase in cosmetic dentistry a reflection of today’s image conscious society?” I would be grateful if you could provide your opinion on this question. This would be much appreciated. Thank You Regards,
