Ive got Nail Patella Syndrome and is there any permanent options other than maryland bridges

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q.
Hiya Dr Moore I’ve got Nail Patella Syndrome which has affected my teeth. I’ve had lots of work done on my teeth since I was a child. When I was 15 – 18 I had four maryland bridges put in which have lasted 15 years. The problem is one keeps coming out now and my nhs dentist keeps cementing it back in but it just keeps coming out again. I asked my dentist if they could do anything different ie implants as he said they use maryland bridges as temporary measures these days. He more or less said i’d have to go private as they would lose out on money if they did another type of bridge. What happened to patient care. It’s really distressing me now as i take pride in how I look and it’s embarrassing as it’s right at the front of my mouth. Any advice, can they do inplants or any other type of bridge that will be permanent. Many thanks for your advice. I couldn’t afford to go private and I don’t see why I should when I pay my taxes. The nhs in useless these days isn’t it.

Its been cleaned and recemented in now my question is basically why did it come out? as i am very carefull by my eating habits and can it come out again? the dentist told me it is only temporary but i was told it will last i intend to do something more permanent like implant in future but am i ok for now with the Maryland bridge ? Is it a good ideal to have a dental bridge on front teeth and can they be permanent?

Q.
I would like to know if it is a good idea to use a dental bridge for the front teeth. If so, how many teeth can be put on a bridge? And, can they be permanent?

i have a constant pain on my temporary crowned teeth can you advice me on it

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q.
Hello. i had a black tooth at the front and have had a temporary crown fitted months ago. I have constant pain as bruising when brushing my teeth and around the gum of that crown is sore to touch. Two dentists have checked it and cannot seem to find a solution. They think maybe the root is fractured. I never had pain from this tooth until now. When i first went back to the dentist he felt the post may have been too long and shortened it. I am wondering if that is the cause as i have a severe over bite. The restorative dentist today told me that if it cant be resolved, i should have the tooth extracted and have a plate with false tooth on as he would not recommend a bridge. Why is a bridge not a good idea? Two years ago i had the lower teeth built up due to severe wear, and i have considered the lower jaw to be operated on. Now i am having problems with the top teeth i really dont know where to turn. I would like to see a specialist who can advise me on all aspects of my dental problems. any advice would be really appreciated

Could the dentist have cut down the tooth too much and damaged the nerve?

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q.
I recently had to get a bridge because I had a primary tooth K but no adult tooth behind it. I am 48 years old and managed to keep tooth K for 48 years – it did have a cavity and a filling and it finally got to the point that the tooth had to come out because there was not enough of the tooth left to replace the filling that had fallen out. While working through the bridge process, I ended up needing a root canal on the back molar that the bridge was to be anchored to. Since that tooth also had a cavity and filling, I could understand the need for a root canal. But now 6 months later, the dentist says I need a root canal on the front bicuspid tooth on the other side of the bridge – the other anchor tooth. This tooth did not have a cavity or filling and was a perfectly healthy tooth prior to the bridge. Could the dentist have cut down the tooth too much and damaged the nerve, in other words, is the dentist the cause of needing a second root canal on a tooth that was perfectly healthy before? Thanks for any advice.
