over 30 years ago I broke my two front teeth and had crowns

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
Q.
Over 30 years ago I broke my two front teeth and had crowns fitted one with a screw, then about 15 years ago had to have an apicectomy due to an infection and the crowns replaced. I was told that if I ever got another infection I would have to the crown removed and a denture put in its place, which has now happened. Is there any alternative to having a denture

I recently received a trauma to my two upper front teeth

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
Q.
I recently received a trauma to my two upper front teeth which resulted in one snapping quite high up and the other discolouring. The snapped tooth has been fitted with a carbon-fibre post and the orginal tooth adhered back on but regularly comes loose being very irritating and leaving an unpleasant taste in my mouth. I was charged £198 for this procedure but am now considering crowns but my dentist says they will be £600 each is this correct. Should I not receive a crown for no further charge as his recommended treatment has not worked?

My daughter, who is only 7 years badly chipped her front teeth

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008
Q.
My daughter, who is only 7 years badly chipped her two front teeth, losing about a half of one tooth and a third of the other. These are her 2nd teeth and therefore the dentist has stated that until she is over 16 she will require fillings to be placed on to the teeth in order that they will appear normal. In order for the fillings to be strong the dentist has advised that she will need to have pins placed into her teeth and the fillings will then be attached to these pins as well as her teeth. Obviously we want to ensure she gets the best and correct treatment possible so can you advise if the pins are a routine way of dealing with this situation considering there has been such amajor loss of tooth. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

i have a bottom tooth with a slant on it

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008
Q.
I have a bottom tooth at the front of my mouth on the left that is on quite a severe slant to the left which has pushed 2 of my front bottom teeth backwards. Due to the tooth being on a slant it is also makes eating difficultas food constantly gets trapped and therefore bad for my gums it also puts me off eating unless its liquids. I aksed my NHS dentist who is not interested and as I have just moved jobs that offers me upto £1500 per yr on pivate dentil treatment I am looking having them corrected privately. I am not sure what treatment would be best, ie 3 veeners to replace the slanted tooth and the 2 teeth pushed backwards or a brige for all 5 bottom teeth to get them straight etc. When I have enquired in the past about the slanting tooth the NHS dentist has informed me that if they remove it the gap is too small to put a veener in for example, and the reason for slanting is due to over-crowding. Please could you advise what the best course of action would be and a rough costs involved. Thank you

I fell flat on my face at the weekend and have broken two of my top front teeth

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008
Q.
I fell flat on my face at the weekend and have broken two of my top front teeth. I went to my dentist today and because one of them only has a small peice of tooth left in the gum and is quite painful she has said that I need a root canal and then it will need to to capped. She states that there is nothing they can do as a temporary fix and my first appointment for the root canal is 2 weeks away and then I will have to wait another two weeks for the trestment to be completed. The other tooth is slightly longer and she thinks that she can just fill it which concerns me as there will be a lot more filling than tooth and as it is my biting tooth Im worried the filling may fall out all the time and look a bit rough. Id rather pay more and have another cap or do you think a filling would surfice? The last thing I want is a dodgy job done, I want to look like I did before the fall! Is it true that there is no temporary measure they can do as I cant really have a month of work and there is no way I can go out in public like this!

every tooth in my head was fitted with a crown

Monday, September 29th, 2008
Q.
Dear Dr Suri. In 1987/8 every tooth in my head was fitted with a crown because they had all worn down. I have had little trouble with my crowns, apart from the two upper front teeth, One I had to have removed and a plate fitted the other came off about 10 years ago and was refixed and has not been a problem untill 2 months ago. My local Dentist refixed it with a new plastic pin but since then the tooth sticks out about 1.5mm I told the dentist I was not happy with the job but he says i need a new crown. I said if the original tooth and crown were drilled straight and the pin was straight hence the tooth was straight how come the tooth is sticking out at an angle. The Dentist could’nt give me a satisfactory answer but just kept saying I needed a new crown. This I could not accept as I am an engineer and unless the crown was wrongly drilled when getting the old pin out, if a new straight pin is fitted in the original holes the tooth must end up straight. My question is what do you think went wrong and how do I get my straight tooth back? Yours Truly

My son fell almost three years ago and he chipped

Sunday, September 21st, 2008
Q.
My son fell almost three years ago and he chipped his front toothe. He was advised to get a root canal and that process lasted about 2 1/2 years. When I finally demanded to get it finished with once and for all, the root canal person sent me to an oral surgeon to do an Apaco and a retrograde filling. during this the oral surgeon came out and told me that the toothe was not able to be repaired and he advised that we pull it. He said we would be in there again within months because it would keep getting reinfected. My son is 11 years old he is very active and is now devastated. We went to his regular dentist who was not at all optimistic about what to do. The oral surgeon recommended a bonding be done the dentist is recommending some flipp thing that he has to take in and out to eat etc…This child is devastated and now is saying he hates his life and is not going anywhere. He has a huge space where his front toothe should be and want to know if the bonding would be better than the flipp thing?
